Frequently asked questions
Free to check. See your result first, then $49 for the full report if you want it. No account needed.
How much does it cost?
Checking is free. You see whether our valuation is higher than your insurer's, or in line with it, before you pay anything. The full report is $49, a one-off payment with no subscription. If our valuation is in line with your insurer's, the report is optional.
Is this legal advice?
No. DisputeX is a document preparation service: it prepares a report from the information and listings you provide. It isn't legal or financial advice, a recommendation about your claim or an opinion on it. What you do with the report is up to you. If you need advice about your situation, speak to a lawyer or a free community legal centre.
Do you contact my insurer?
No. We never contact your insurer, act for you or receive replies. You send the report to your insurer yourself. It's written for them to read, so you can attach it as it is.
Will I get more money?
We can't say, and nobody can promise that. The report shows the numbers and the method behind them, so you and your insurer can look at the same evidence. Your insurer decides whether to change its offer.
I'm not insured. Can I still use it?
Yes, if the other driver's insurer has assessed your car as written off and made you an offer. Those offers are usually based on what your car was worth just before the accident, so the check works the same way. Choose "Not insured" when you start.
Do I need my insurer's valuation?
No. You only type in a few details: your insurer, the market value they assessed and the date of incident, plus your car's details from your rego papers. If you're not sure of the variant, the badge on the back of the car or your insurer's letter usually shows it. You can also ask your insurer for a copy of the valuation they used.
Why only cars for sale in my state?
Listings from other states aren't a like-for-like comparison, so only cars for sale in the same state or territory as your car are used. If you can only find one or two, you can continue with those, and your report says so.
What happens if my insurer says no?
Insurers have an internal complaints process, and the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) is a free, independent service if you're not satisfied with the response. Your report page has general information about both. AFCA decides each complaint on its own facts.
Can I get the cost of the report back?
Possibly, but don't count on it. In a complaint, AFCA can ask an insurer to contribute to professional costs a person reasonably paid in making the complaint. In one published decision, AFCA ordered an insurer to pay for an independent valuer's report that helped resolve the dispute. DisputeX isn't a professional valuer, and whether any cost is paid back is up to your insurer or AFCA. Keep your payment receipt. AFCA determination 12-25-324274
Can I get a refund?
If your report fails to generate, we refund you automatically. If something isn't right with your report, email support@disputex.com.au and we'll fix it or refund you where the Australian Consumer Law or our terms allow. There are no refunds for a change of mind, or because your insurer didn't change its offer. Our terms
